OPPIt’s a long weekend coming up and the OPP wants you to make sure you’re wearing your seat belt.

Sgt. Carolle Dionne is the Media Relations Coordinator for the Northeast Region.

She says last year there were close to 50 instances of people not putting on their seat belt, during the Easter Long Weekend.

Dionne says seat belt compliance is the focus of OPP activity this long weekend.

She says not having a seat belt on is one of the top 4 reasons for crashes and says people are still dying because they haven’t put their seat belt on.

Dionne points out that younger people are pretty good about putting on their seat belt.

But, she says that’s not the case for age 40 and up.

Dionne says last year there were 38 collisions, with five resulting in injuries.

She says it’s hard to comprehend why people take the chance. She says be safe and put on your seat belt.
