Col Sean BoyleLater this month, 22 Wing commander Colonel Sean Boyle will be taking a leadership role for Canadian Forces in the Middle East.

It was announced last week that Colonel Boyle is leaving 22 Wing to be the commander of Air Task Force Iraq, which is Canada’s contribution to the stabilization force. On Wednesday of this week, Colonel Henrik Smith becomes the new wing commander.

Colonel Boyle says getting involved in the community has been one of the best parts of his job.

He says he’s leaving with mixed emotions as he knows the wing here is the envy of wings across the country.

His tour is for 6 months and he will be based in Kuwait.

Colonel Boyle  says he will miss North Bay.

He says the base, under his watch, has made a difference in the community.

He says military members have been involved in several events including the United Way campaign, Heart and Stroke fundraising, Relay For Life, holding a Christmas concert and, of course, Armed Forces Day.
