Teachers are Working-To-Rule

Elementary school teachers and occasional teachers are starting “Phase 1” of their strike campaign on Monday.

President of the Near North Teachers Local Dave Bartlett says a work-to-rule campaign, means that while classrooms, field trips and extracurricular activities are running, the teachers will withdraw from any duties connected to ministry of education initiatives. He says that includes things like staff meetings or EQAO testing.

Bartlett says it’s a provincial issue, so “Phase 2” would be released only if necessary.

Union president Sam Hammond says the work to rule campaign will continue until the province takes back what he calls unreasonable demands and the union decides the strike needs to be escalated.
