ofssa soccerThere will be more than 900 soccer players, coaches, and parents in the city this week.

40 teams will take part in the boys “A” and “AA” OFSAA soccer championship.

The games get underway Thursday, followed by the banquet on Thursday night and the championship game on Saturday.

Tournament Convener Ryan Culhane says the banquet will take place inside Memorial Gardens and will hopefully showcase the ability of the arena to hold more than just hockey games.

He says “one of the designs of by the city was for them to host not only the Battalion but also the concerts, banquets and things like OFSAA – and this will be a good first test of it.”

Culhane says they expect to bring in close to a million dollars in the economic spinoff from this event.

West Ferris is the host school and plays in the “AA” event, while Algonquin qualified for the “A” championship.
