remainsNorth Bay Police held a news conference Monday afternoon following a weekend discovery by students that were conducting research in the marsh area located off Hwy 11 South, north of the Lakeshore Drive turn-off.

Police say the students found a shoe which they believed contained human remains  and they then called police.

Deputy Chief Shawn Devine says the investigation continues.

Devine says the forensic identification unit and a forensic anthropologist are on the scene conducting a search.

He encourages the public and the media to respect police lines and not interfere with their work.

Devine says the coroners office is the lead on this investigation which means no more details will be released at this time.

He also says the students, who aren’t from the area, have been offered victim services.
