NNDSB_logoThe good news is the Near North District School Board’s budget is balanced… however, there are difficult decisions that lie ahead.

Board chair David Thompson says they’re trying to minimize the impact on staff through attrition and retirements but there are going to be tough decisions involving union and non-union staff.

He also says while the board has been good at consolidating schools, they have to look at more.

Thompson says the province is rewarding boards that consolidate schools, pointing out schools within 10 kilometres of each other won’t be getting top-up funding.   He says the reforms are writing their capital plans.

Deliberations on the budget are coming up, starting with a public meeting next Monday.
