Navy LeagueFor 50 years now the Navy League North Bay Branch has been helping kids ages 9 to 12 gain a sense of self-esteem, self-motivation, self-discipline and the abilility to interact with other people.

They’re celebrating their 50th anniversary tomorrow (Saturday) with a parade at the Troy Armoury at 1 pm and an awards dinner and dance at 6:30 pm at Legion Branch 23.

Lt Raymond O’Neil says some people may think they’re all about hardcore discipline, but that’s not the case.

He says their main goal is to get kids interested in the cadet program and to get them ready for the older levels, where there is more of a focus on discipline.

O’Neil says they have three camps a year, in spring, summer and winter, teaching things like survival skills and how to build a shelter, to first aid, water safety and more.
