water tap2What is fair and equitable when it comes to water rates was the key question at a special review committee of council Monday night.

Mayor Al McDonald said it would be complicated, and it turns out it is.

But Chair George Maroosis says the group has come to an initial consensus.

“For every cubic metre of water that is used by whatever consumer, that price should be the same,” he explained.

But committee member Mac Bain says it’s a real balancing act.

“Every time you change a formula, winners and losers are created. We as a committee have to be aware that there are going to be financial impacts to other users.”

The committee wants to make a recommendation to council by late August and has scheduled two more meetings in July.
