The Laurier Woods Conservation Area is hosting an event this weekend.

It is called the Louise De Kiriline Festival.

Spokesperson for the Nipissing Naturalists Susan Christian says Louise De Kiriline was ahead of her time in promoting environmental concerns and wrote several books and articles on the importance of preserving nature.

Christian says De Kiriline gained a lot of fame for being the Dionne Quints nurse as well.

Christian says she lived in the Mattawa area and efforts are being made to honor her by putting a plaque in front of her original home.

Christian says the festival will include a presentation from Bear With Us. That’s an organization that provides tips on dealing with bears and how to be bear wise.

She says there will also be reptiles on hand. in addition, there will be presentations on dragonflies and rocks and minerals as well. The festival is from 9-3 tomorrow.
