OPP logo Ontario Provincial PoliceMattawa OPP have charged a Papineau-Cameron Township male with several offenses following an incident on Sunday night.

Police say a man had threatened a family member with a weapon and had barricaded himself inside the home.

OPP say they attempted to get the man to surrender peacefully.

The OPP say the Emergency Response Team, crisis negotiators and the Crime Unit and Tactical and Rescue Unit were all involved.

The man has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault and uttering threats-cause death or bodily harm.

The name of the accused has been withheld to protect the identity of the victims who were able to escape the home unharmed.

Meantime, Mattawa OPP have charged two motorists with impaired driving.

A 58 year old Sudbury woman was stopped on Highway 17 early last Saturday morning and a 29 year old North Bay male was stopped early on Sunday morning.

And West Nipissing Police were called to a local high school after suspected marijuana was discovered inside some students backpacks.

Two 15 year old males have been charged with possession of a controlled substance under 30 Grams.
