atvsWith All-Terrain Vehicles possibly being allowed on some city streets, the OPP wants to ensure riders know all the rules and regulations surrounding ATV riders.

There have been recent changes made to the legislation and Constable Brian Bowes says it includes safety updates, and new road rules for speed limits.

He says if they are on a road with a speed limit in excess of 50 kmh, they can ride on the shoulder of the highway in the same direction of traffic at a speed up to 50.

Any speed under that, ATV riders are restricted to 20 kmh. Bowes says quite a few changes have been made regarding safety regulations, such as roll over protection systems and a seat belt harness must be worn. Another rule is that anyone under the age of eight is not permitted on a vehicle at any point.

He says you can go online to see all the updates at the Government of Ontario website.
