A Look at High School Sports

Algonquin, Chippewa, and Widdifeild took home victories last night.

Canadore College & Widdifield Secondary School hosted the “Early Bird” High School Boys Volleyball Tournament last night.

In the Senior Division, the Widdifield Wildcats defeated Almaguin Highlands in the finals with two straight sets (25-12, 25-11).

The Wildcats also went undefeated for the day playing West Ferris SS, Elliot Lake S.S, Mackenzie Community S and Almaguin Highlands S.S. in their pool.

In the Junior Division it was the Chippewa Raiders who defeated Timiskaming District in the finals with two straight sets (25-6, 25-16). The Jr Raiders also went undefeated for the day playing West Ferris SS, Elliot Lake S.S, and Widdifeild S.S. in their pool.

In NDA senior football action, the Algonquin Barons defeated the Widdifield Wildcats 23-20 last night. All the action happened in the final minutes where Algonquin was down 20-10. Algonquin’s Quarterback Braeden Villeneuve brought his team downfield and helped The Barons score 13 points as well as the game winning touchdown 1:44 left in the game. After a failed game-tying field goal from Widdifield, the victory was Algonquins’.
