11th year of the Run for the Cure event in North Bay today

 This year’s CIBC Run For The Cure in North bay is this morning.

Melanie Gainforth is the run coordinator. She says the opening ceremonies start at 10, the event begins at 11 and the closing ceremonies start at noon.

Gainforth says Memorial Drive will be closed to traffic from 10:30-noon.

She says they hope to raise $140,000 this year and that will easily surpass the $1-million mark in the history of the North Bay event.

Gainforth says they have involved the community in this event and notes they have received support from the North Bay Fire Department, North Bay Police and Nipissing University and they’ve also held a comedy night and a spaghetti dinner to raise funds.
