Council streaming Councillor Mac Bain brought forward a proposal to reduce the number of Council seats from 10 to 8 during the next Municipal Election.

He says doing this would be one way they could have potential savings on the budget.

Bain says they could even out that work by having less Councillors represented on some of the agencies, boards and commissions.

Bain says it’s hard to compare cities – but those of similar size to North Bay typically operate under a ward system because of amalgamation of municipalities.

He says some don’t have a true Deputy Mayor and they can vary in numbers from as low as 7 and as high as 10. The motion has gone to the committee level for further discussion.
