Special OlympicsThere’s no good way to use the R-word. That’s the message on Yellowcard Day with city police teaming up with a number of partners, including Special Olympics, on the national anti-bullying campaign.

Constable Merv Shantz says it’s all about bringing awareness to the harmful effects of the R-word and encouraging people to eliminate the word from their vocabulary.

Meantime, three local Special Olympics athletes are fundraising as they get set to take part in the 2016 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook, Newfoundland next March.

Shantz says the cost to send an athlete to the games is 16-hundred dollars. Benjamin Chain is an alpine skier while Carley Tucker and Jon Touw  are in snowshoeing.

Shantz says you can contact him or Special Olympics locally to arrange a donation.
