North Bay’s inaugural YYB World Space Week wrapped up on the weekend with a high-profile visitor.

Former Astronaut Colonel Chris Hadfield took in Saturday’s events and spoke to a sold-out crowd at the Capitol Centre that night.

Hadfield says North Bay hosting Space Week made sense considering it’s historical legacy with aerospace and will inspire people to think about that type of activity.

In terms of the city getting involved in the space and aerospace industry, he says having that legacy helps.

Overall, Hadfield says he wanted people to leave his presentation connecting their own lives to the ideas and images delivered.

Meantime, he says there’s more than just astronauts exploring space, pointing to engineers behind the unmanned missions exploring Mars and Pluto.

Hadfield says when he was young it was impossible for him to achieve what he actually has achieved and says education is key to helping kids live out their dreams.

Hadfield also says people always ask him if he believes in aliens.

He says there’s no evidence but the math behind the chances that we’re alone is astronomical, pointing out they believe there’s roughly seven septillion planets out there.

He also performed a couple songs with North Bay born musician Sean Kelly.
