Daryl Vaillaincourt - Council Capsule

Bombardier is not renewing their lease to continue work in North Bay; that was one of the topics on Council Capsule this morning.

Matthew Sookram was joined in studio by Councillor Darryl Vaillancourt. Vaillancourt says while they don’t like to lose any business, he hinted at new tenants coming soon.

Sticking with the potential of bringing jobs to North Bay – Vaillancourt was asked about World Space Week. He says this could be looked at as a starting point for more space industry initiatives in North Bay.

A big housing development is being proposed for the Lakeshore Drive and Birches Road area. It would see an 81-lot development behind the Best Western and it would include a mixture of apartment buildings, townhouses, and single dwellings.

Sookram asked Vaillancourt about the potential to fill those homes with new residents.

Meantime, they discussed the idea of reducing the number of Councillors from 10 to 8 – which is a proposal currently at the committee level.

Vaillancourt says he’s not completely against the idea.
