New partnership involving mental health

Thanks to $100,000 in funding from the Northeast LHIN a unique partnership has been formed between the North Bay Regional Health Centre and People For Equal Partnership in Mental Health or PEP.

The Director of Community Engagement for the LHIN is Cynthia Stables.

She says a peer support specialist with PEP will work out of the emergency department at the health centre.

Stables says the PEP Peer Support Specialist will be someone who has dealt with mental health issues and will offer support to patients while they are in the emergency department and offer solutions that are in the community.

She says the $100,000 funding is on an annual basis for this program.

Stables says the peer support worker attends during the week and on weekends too.
