Council remuneration up for discussion

Should Council salaries be increased?

That’s a discussion around the table right now as Councillor Mac Bain brought forward a motion asking City Staff to look into the option of remuneration.

Bain says they should look into what Mayors and Councils make in other city’s and then move forward by comparison.

He’s also looking for public input on the issue.  

Bain says “some people don’t think we do a good job as elected officials, I don’t agree with that, but my big concern is will people put themselves and their families through being an elected official for the amount of pay that this council gets.”

The motion was sent to the committee level for further discussion.
