The Lakers women’s volleyball team were unsuccessful last night losing their season opener against the Lakehead Thunderwolves 3-0 in Thunder Bay. Next up for the team is a game on Halloween night, when they host Ottawa.

The Lakers men’s hockey team took on the Badgers last night, but couldn’t measure up as Brock walked away with a 3-0 win. Lakers goalie Domenic Graham made 26 saves in the game out of 29 shots.

The Lakers women’s hockey team were in action last night against the Ridgebacks. UOIT fell to the Lakers 3-1 after goals from Carly Marchment, Kaley Tienhaara and Sam Strassburger. Jackie Rochefort made 18 saves in the victory.

The Lakers men’s volleyball team fell last night to the Western Mustangs even after a decent lead in the beginning. Ultimately the Mustangs defeated the Lakers 14-12. Next up for the Lakers are the Windsor Lancers this afternoon, game time is 3pm.

Both Nipissing soccer teams are in action this afternoon visiting Queen’s University in Kingston. In women’s basketball, the Lakers are in Quebec playing Concordia while the Nipissing lacrosse team visits Western.

In OCAA sports, a few Canadore teams are playing their home openers today at the Education Centre Gym. Both volleyball teams play Trent, the women are on the court at 1pm while the men play at 3pm. In men’s basketball, Canadore takes on Georgian at 6pm. Admission is free.

The Trojans suffered their first regular season loss in three years last night after a 27-13 victory for the Widdifield Wildcats. With the win, Widdifeild secures 3rd place, while the Trojans already clinched first. The NDA playoffs kick off next Friday.
