2015 campus freedom indexNot much change for Nipissing and it’s Student Union when it comes to comparing the 2015 Campus Freedom Index to last year.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms report measures the state of free speech at 55 Canadian public Universities.

Nipissing University received “C” grades for policies and practices,  the same as last year, while the Nipissing University Student Union dropped from a “C” to a “D” in policies and remained the same, a “C” grade, in practices.

Specifically, the report says NUSU received a “D” for policies because it lacks a commitment to free speech, it’s policies could be used to censor groups and it lacks a policy preventing it from taking positions on issues unrelated to post-secondary school.

Meantime, the index says Nipissing University‘s policies could be used to censor speech and it fails to have a policy preventing security fees from being used to censor speech.

Out of the 220 grades awarded to 55 campuses across the country, only eight “A” grades were awarded while 41 “F” grades were handed out.
