Fire departmentThis is the weekend we change the clocks back one hour, before bed on Saturday.

Meantime, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services says this is also a great time to change the batteries in your Smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors.

Officials say most fatal fires happen at night when people are asleep and often the victims never wake up.

Fire Prevention Officer Sheri Korn says, “working smoke alarms provide an early warning and critical extra seconds to escape.”

She says unfortunately about two-thirds of all fire deaths happen in homes where there is no working smoke alarm.

Officials also say check the manufacturer’s expiration date on the devices too.

They say if any smoke alarms are over 10 years old, replace it right away.

For Carbon Monoxide detectors replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions or every 7 years.
