City HallNorth Bay Council has a motion on the table to reduce the speed limit on roads near schools.

Chair of Engineering and Works Tanya Vrebosch says they will be implementing signage as well as having police enforcement to enact the new speed limits.

She says from September to June the limit would be 40 kilometers per hour, down from 50 – and it would only be during school hours.

Vrebosch says this will affect 23 roads in the community and the new signage will be implemented at a cost of around $30,000.

Vrebosch says this is moving forward for a final vote at council next Monday.

She says Community Safety Zones are being put in to mitigate injuries suffered by children and pedestrians.
