north-bay-district-labour-councilThe North Bay and District Labour Council is supporting the Nipissing University Faculty Association in their “fight for a fair deal”. Council President Henri Giroux says the employer is digging in their heels by saying they don’t have anything more.

He also says going on strike is a last resort, pointing out no one wants to go on strike.

Giroux says Nipissing is a backbone of the community and as one of the largest employers, the quality of teaching and research that goes on is top-notch and needs to stay that way.

The union says the two sides are still far apart on key issues, including maintaining faculty complement, fair financial compensation and meaningful participation in governance.

Giroux is also calling on other unions in the area to show their support and join the faculty on the picket line.
