A major development is the move to have a hospice in North Bay.

In the spring, the Northeast LHIN had two bids to run a hospice: Nipissing Serenity Hospice and North Bay and Area Community Hospice.

It was determined on Thursday that the NipissingSerenity Hospice would be the model that will be moving forward.

Terry Tilliczek, the Senior Director of the Northeast LHIN says the decision was made after a recommendation from a palliative care committee .

He says they developed a list of criteria including operational cost, capacity of fundraising and model of care.

The LHIN says Nipissing Serenity Hospice has been tasked with developing a work plan, a budget and fundraising targets.

Mayor Al McDonald says the hospice will cost between $5-million and $7-million and there will be a local fundraising campaign and he hopes the entire community gets behind it.
