Unifor lockoutA win for Unifor Local 103.

On Wednesday, we told you that the ONTC was locking out some of its employees.

195 rail and bus mechanics, as well as employees who conduct locomotive and rail car repair are impacted.

The company indicated to the union that the affected employees wouldn’t be required to work for the 72 hour notice period with the lockout taking effect on Saturday morning.

The union didn’t like what the company did, so they took their case to the Canada Industrial Relations Board and they won.   Union president Andy Mitchell says they’ll be back at work Friday.

He says the ruling means that what the Wynne Government did was “illegal.”   He also says they do have a negotiating session scheduled at 11 am Friday.

Mitchell says they want to negotiate a fair agreement, but if management continues to “stick to contracting out jobs” they could be locked out at 8 am on Saturday morning.
