NEW opp policeThe festive season is nearly upon us and that means an increased focus on impaired driving.

North Bay OPP Constable Carolyn Ward says they’re already reporting a disturbing stat when it comes to impaired charges.

She says, “We’ve had six in seven days, which is a big concern for us.” One of the incidents happened early this morning (Thursday) and involved a motorist striking a fully marked police cruiser.

A 34 year old city man has been charged.

Other incidents occurred in the early morning, mid-morning and afternoon.

Police say plan ahead, call a cab, friend or family member for a ride or stay the night.

Meantime, the MADD Canada Red Ribbon campaign was launched today (Thursday).

The initiative is all about increasing awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.
