WSOC - RecruitsThe Nipissing Lakers women’s soccer team is preparing for next season.

The two newest signings are Sarah Matesic and MyKaela Volpe.

Volpe is a goaltender from Whitby and Matesic comes from Bowmanville and her game is described as versatile meaning she can play several positions.

Volpe will be studying biology while Matesic will be taking social work.

 

Meantime, the Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team hopes to hit a 6 game winning streak by the end of the weekend.

They play twice on Memorial Gardens ice Friday against Concordia and Saturday night versus UQTR.

Both games are at 7 pm.  The Lakers are 6-3-3 on the season and have won their last 4.

The women’s squad is also home this weekend.

They host Guelph in a 4 pm matinee on Saturday.

 

As well, the North Bay Spartans basketball team is holding open tryouts for Girls in Grades 8-12.

It takes place this coming Sunday, at 10 am at Ecole Secondaire Algonquin.

 

And Sport North Bay and Nipissing University Rowing are putting on an event as part of the nationwide RBC Sports Day in Canada.

On Saturday they will hold the Great Northern Rowing Relay from 2pm-5pm at the University Athletics Centre.

Teams of up to five members will face a 15 minute challenge to row as far as possible on indoor rowing machines.

Registration is $10-dollars per team, and the entry fee will be donated to One Kids Place.

There’s also a chance for all participants to win prizes.
