Exploratory meeting lined up involving both sides in Nipissing Faculty strike

An exploratory meeting is expected this week in the ongoing faculty strike at Nipissing.

That’s the word from the university in a media release.

They say the provincially appointed mediator has invited both sides to meet with him for an exploratory discussion to evaluate whether or not a resumption of collective bargaining is appropriate at this time.

Meantime, since the strike began the Faculty Association has undertaken a social media campaign on Instagram.

NUFA President Susan Srigley says it shows pictures of faculty with their friends, family and pets and a sign showing how many years they’ve called North Bay their home.

Srigley says this shows they are part of the cultural, political, social and economic aspects of North Bay.

She adds faculty are committed to the city and raising their families here.

Srigley says their longest serving faculty member has been in North Bay since the 1970’s, while other faculty have been here for more than 10 years.
