Canadore facility(File Photo) Canadore College has surpassed expectations when it comes to student enrollment for the Fall Semester.

The college says there are 3,700 students.  That’s an increase of 200.

Meantime, there are 397 international students and the 105 Aboriginal students at the college.

Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services Shawn Chorney says they need the community to continue to embrace the students.

Chorney says that includes building conditions for them through housing and jobs and recognizing different cultures these students bring with them.

He says when they get to North Bay it can be quite a culture shock. He says some Aboriginal students come from communities of 400 or 500 people where as some of the Chinese students come from a city like Beijing with 28-million people.

Chorney says there are some fears and anxieties that come with moving to such different places.

He says the majority of the community is very welcoming and he says they will continue to grow and diversify their school and the community.

As well, included in those numbers are the Bachelor of Science and Nursing students, which is a joint program with Nipissing University.

Chorney due to the faculty strike at the University there are some challenges, but he says they are working through them. He says they will continue to work through it with their partners and their students.
