Hurley - clip 1 Michael Hurley is hoping the province will do a better job of supplying funding to the local hospital.

Hurley is the President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions and he says the North Bay Regional Health Centre is underfunded by $23-million.

He says since the hospital opened, provincial funding has not kept pace with the actual costs to deliver. Hurley was asked how long the hospital can operate while being underfunded and if that could eventually shut the hospital down.

He says he can’t see that happening but they do need a better plan in place.

Hurley spoke to local media today and says the $23-million is the amount needed to bring this kind of hospital up to the Canadian average.
