NU lakersThe Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team worked hard towards their second win of the season.

The Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team were also successful last night.

And, the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team had a major comeback last night. 

 

 

The Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team defeated the Algoma Thunderbirds last night, 64-59.

Most of the game say Nipissing dominate the scoring until the fourth quarter, when the Thunderbirds battled a little harder.

The first quarter was mostly defence with low scores on both sides.

The second quarter however, saw plenty of offence with the Lakers outscoring Algoma 16-11, creating a 28-18 lead half way in the game.

Both teams together made 49 points in the third, with the Lakers still on top with 54-41 at the end.

And then the fourth quarter saw Algoma catch up to Nipissing after outscoring the team 18-10 but it still wasn’t enough to secure them the win.

18 points for Claire Abbott was the lead for the game, Alexe Galipeau-Wilson walked away with 1, and Michaela Branker picked up nine points in the win.

The Lakers are now third in the division and take the rest of the year off. Their next game will be in 2016.

 

The Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team picked up their first OUA victory last night against the Algoma Thunderbirds 71-56.

The game started off with Nipissing dominating the Thunderbirds by outscoring the team 20-8, creating a solid lead for the Lakers.

The second quarter saw Algoma attempt to catch up, making the score 39-25 going into halftime.

The Lakers were able to push their lead a little farther in the third, leading 57-41 by the end.

And in the fourth quarter, Algoma again attempted a comeback, only to ultimately fall to the Lakers in the end.

Marcus Lewis was the star of the Lakers last night with 25 points and 20 rebounds in the win, Marvin Ngonadi added 17 points and Wil Konybai picked up 11.

The Lakers will now take December off, and will return in the New Year.

 

And, the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team were taking on the Toronto Varsity Blues where after a 2-2 tie, the game went into overtime.

That’s where the Lakers cemented their 3-2 win of the game.

Carly Marchment and Kaley Tienhaara had one goal and one assist respectively, while Taylor Murphy was responsible for that game winning goal in overtime.

Jackie Rochefort had a good game making 34 saves in net.

Next up for Nipissing is a road game against the Ryerson Rams. Puck drop is set for 7:30.
