A penalty filled third period almost overshadowed a great game for North Bay as they beat London 7-2 at Memorial Gardens on Sunday.

It all started when Battalion forward Mike Baird was knocked into London’s net and Knights Goalie Brendan Burke blocked Baird from getting out.

Play by Play voice Matthew Sookram with the call.

19 different penalties were handed out after the line brawl with 7 players being ejected.

After the game Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler was asked what he thought about Baird’s discipline.

In total the teams combined for 70 minutes of penalties and 37 infractions.

Danill Vertiy, Mike Amadio, Cam Dineen, Brett McKenzie, Mike Baird, Brett Hargrave and Mathew Santos were the goal scorers.

Butler says it’s nice to see some different names on the score sheet.

The Battalion now has five wins in their last eight games.

The Knights came in on a 9-game winning streak – but the Troops got two goals in the first and five in the second to secure their second straight win.

The line of McKenzie, Steve Harland and Baird combined for two goals and four assists.

Butler says he likes the chemistry that has developed with that group.

Jake Smith made 21 saves on 23 shots in the win, his 10th of the year.

North Bay gets back on the ice on Thursday when they host the Mississauga Steelheads.
