opseuThere’s no labour peace right now between the province and the union that represents corrections officers.

On Tuesday,  OPSEU held an information picket outside the North Bay District Jail and the executive board member for OPSEU Mike Bisaillon says it won’t be long before they are in a legal strike position. It should by mid January or sooner.

He says their members have some of the highest caseloads in the country and nothing has changed over several years because no one is listening.

Bisaillon says this is not a new situation and negotiating the normal way with the province hasn’t worked.

He says they are being ignored by the government.

Bisaillon says the North Bay District Jail has the highest percentage of lockdowns in Ontario.

He says lockdowns create a big problem because inmates are cut off from the phone and visits from family.
