Over 300 votes were cast in our online survey asking you to choose the top local news story of 2015.

At number one, with 17 percent of the vote was Anthony Rota being elected MP, defeating incumbent Jay Aspin.

Close behind at 16 percent was a North Bay couple missing in BC’s southern interior for about a week this summer.

Third was the remains of a missing Timmins man being located in a marsh area south of North Bay, with 14 percent.

In fourth, at 13 percent, was job losses — including those at the hospital, university, Bombardier, Target and more.

Rounding out the top 5 was the airport terminal being renovated, and Porter Airlines arriving, with 8 percent.

A couple more entries were close too.

Labour strife (Nipissing faculty strike, ONTC lockout, education work-to-rule, CCAC strike and more) received 7 percent. At 6 percent was water meters operational and water rates approved in North Bay.
