Winter DrivingWith the amount of snow, ice and slush in the area, North Bay OPP wants everyone to be safe on the roads.

They have a few tips to help keep you and your passenger safe.

OPP says pay attention to the changing weather and road conditions, and to drive accordingly. That means either reducing your speed or just being extra vigilant. Call the MTO at 511 for road conditions.

They also suggest leaving early to avoid rushing to your destination, be sure you always have an ice scraper in your vehicle and clear snow from your windows, lights, mirrors and roof.

Some other tips include waiting for the fog on your windows to clear before driving and keep your tank half full to prevent condensation in your tank.

OPP also says the most important tip they can offer, is to get your snow tires on your vehicle. They say tests have proven snow tires have better traction and control.

Plus they reduce the stopping distances on icy roads.
