The Battalion hasn’t lost in North Bay since November 19th and the streak continues after the win over the Steelheads.

Battalion Head Coach Stan Butler says he was really impressed with Jake Smith’s play in net.

Smith made 27 saves on the night for his 14th win of the year. It’s his franchise leading 74th career win and his 6th win in 7 starts.

Defensemen scored the first three goals of the game.

The Battalion opened the scoring in the first on a goal by Dineen.

After Daniel De Sousa tied the game for the visiting Steelheads, Kyle Wood made it 2-1 for North Bay with his fourth of the year.

Three more goals were scored in the second with North Bay’s Matthew Santos and Kyle Potts scoring to pace the Battalion to a 4-1 lead.

But Mississauga’s Daniel Muzito-Bagenda cut the lead in half at the 16:12 mark.

Owen Tippett then made it a one-goal game in the third as the Steelheads looked to be gaining momentum, but Troops Captain Mike Amadio got a pass from Santos near the Steelheads net, which Amadio buried at 13:41 for a 5-3 advantage.

Amadio would score his 22nd of the year about six minutes later on an empty net-shorthanded goal.

Dineen and Santos got the first two stars respectively as the rookie and the overager combined for  2 goals and 6 assists (one goal and three assists each).

Smith got the third star of the game in the final game of the 2015 calendar year for North Bay.

The Battalion are now 15-2-1 when they play on New Year’s eve

The Troops are back in action on Saturday evening when they travel to Barrie for a game against the Colts.
