Shoemaker with the kidsA couple of players from the North Bay Battalion taking time to visit students today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday).

Goaltender Jake Kment and Defenceman Mark Shoemaker made an appearance at Dr. MacDougall to play floor hockey, sign autographs and answer questions from the students.

Kment is from the Soo and says he remembers when Greyhounds players would visit his school.

He says he really looked up to those players and it’s a dream come true to be able to play against them now in the OHL. Kment says he enjoys being in the classroom with students to let them know how he got to the OHL and give advice to other young players.

Shoemaker says he never thought he would be looked up to as a role model for kids.

He says he played mostly single A and double AA in his minor midget career and would go to OHL games and watch in awe of the caliber of talent on the ice.

Shoemaker says now that he’s here it’s great to be someone kids can look up to.
