Police cruiserHow would you respond to a neighbour who was in trouble?

One civilian answered that question by going above and beyond the call of duty says Deputy Police Chief Shawn Devine.

Devine says on November 18th 2014, a resident heard his female neighbour was being physically attacked.

The civilian kicked down his neighbour’s door and pulled a 58 year old male off the victim.

Devine says the act most likely saved the victims life and for that they gave him the distinguished Board Commendation Award.

He says this isn’t an award that is given out frequently, and adds the male showed a lot of selflessness through his actions.

The male made an appearance at the Police Services Board meeting but did not want to be named or photographed.

As a result of the incident the 58 year old was charged with one count of attempted murder.
