City discusses their long term plan for water

The Safe Drinking Water Act of Ontario recognizes that every person in the province is entitled to safe drinking water.

Now, municipalities across the province have to prove their water is safe, including North Bay.

Chief Financial Officer Margaret Karpenko says they have adopted their own Water Long-Range Financial Plan.She says this shows the province the city has a plan that is financially sustainable to provide safe drinking water.

Karpenko says sufficient cash balances exists, operations are generating a small surplus annually and the basis of the plan is the capital reinvestment program.

She says the general average of the capital reinvestment is $6.4-million per year over the next ten years.
