Friday Night's Lakers Action

Plenty of action yesterday for the Nipissing Lakers.

The men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and hockey were all in action.

Starting off with the Nipissing Lakers women’s basketball team, who fell last night, 75-54, to the Laurier Golden Hawks.

It was the two middle quarters that hurt Nipissing, as Laurier outscored the Lakers 43-27.

The first quarter saw the Lakers earn a 4 point lead by the end, but by the second, they were trailing 22-15.

By the end of the third it was 57-37 and the rest is history.

This is the second straight loss for the team, but they hope to make a turnaround tonight against Laurentian. That game is at 6pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.
It was such a close game that the losing team should still feel proud, and that team is the Nipissing Lakers men’s basketball team. Even after taking a big lead into the second half, the Lakers lost to the Laurier Golden Hawks 73-72.

Laurier started strong, earning a 23-18 lead over Nipissing in the first quarter, but the second saw a turnaround for the Lakers.

They scored 24 point grabbing the lead with 42-33 at the end of the quarter.

At the end of the third it was 64-60 and after an exciting fourth quarter, the Golden Hawks walked away with the 73-72 win.

A tough loss they hope to recover from, as they now face the Waterloo Warriors tonight at 8pm at the RJS Athletic Centre.

The Nipissing Lakers men’s hockey team suffered a loss against the UOIT Ridgebacks last night.

Dylan Staples, Erik Robichaud and Guillaume Naud were all responsible for the goals for Nipissing, while Domenic Graham made 23 saves out of 28 shots.

Final score was 5-3.

Next up are the Queens Gaels tonight at 7pm.

Another recorded loss for the Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team last night.

The team had traveled to Windsor, and lost 5-3 to the Lancers.

3 different Lakers were responsible for the goals last night. Kaitlyn McManus, Kaley Tienhaara and Bronwyn Bolduc found the back of the net.

Next up for Nipissing is Western, where they will travel to London for their 7pm game.

A sweep of the RMC Paladins last night for the Nipissing Lakers woman’s volleyball team.

Tracy Hammerton led the scoring with 11 kills, followed by Erika Lapierre and Taylor Ley who had 8 kills each, which helped bring the Lakers to their 3-0 win!

The Queens Gaels are next for Nipissing, where they play a 6pm game in Kingston.

Then end of a rough patch for the Nipissing Lakers men’s volleyball team.

They were able to defeat the RMC Paladins 3-0 last night in Kingston, with Cam Branch leading the team with 15 kills.

Lyndon Sonego added 11 and Steve Wood was solid adding 12.

The Lakers remain in Kingston for their next game against the Queens Gaels. That game is at 8pm.
