casinoWith the potential of a casino coming to North Bay, the city has been asked to preform and economic study on its potential impacts.

The request comes from Janet Zimbalatti who is was speaking on behalf of the Whole Charities Association with Blue Sky Bingo.

She says local charities that benefit from the Blue Sky Bingo program will be losing funding if a casino comes to town.

Zimbalatti says they are hopeful the city goes through with the study.

Zimbalatti says Council should take into consideration all the money the bingo hall charities spend in the community as well.

Chair of Community Services Mark King says he is on record as saying he doesn’t support a casino.

He says an economic study should be something they consider.

Zimbalatti says there are about 57 charities who benefit from the funds raised from Blue Sky Bingo.

Mayor Al McDonald says a council would have to bring forward a proposal to start an economic development study.

McDonald says there will be a lot to consider regarding the casino.

McDonald says they don’t anticipate anything to be discussed until 2017.
