Northern Shores med clinic A new medical clinic has officially opened it’ doors in North Bay.

It’s called the Northern Shores Medical Clinic and it’s located on Maplewood Avenue.

The clinic has 3 doctors already on staff and committments from another two.

Dr. Jonothan Blackadar says they are working to increase their number of patients to 1,200 each.

He says they are looking for those doctors to come in by the fall or early 2017.

The doctor, who is from North Bay and attended the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, was asked why he is practicing close to home rather than go to Southern Ontario.

Dr. Blackadar says there are more opportunities in the north because that is where doctors are needed.

He says down south there is a patient shortage.

Dr.  Blackadar says they have 800 patients to date and that’s since opening at the beginning of the month.

He says there is room for as many as 12 docs at the clinic.

Tiz Silveri  is the North Bay Regional Health Centre’s Vice President for Clinical  and the Chief Nursing official.

She says the waiting list for doctors in North Bay is 12,000 and with these 3 doctors taking 3,600 patients together this is a big development for health care in the city.

Mayor Al McDonald says getting three young local doctors to practice here and to start a clinic is a great boost of confidence in North Bay.

He says it’s also proof the partnership between the city and the health care centre is working.
