NEW opp policeOPP are undertaking an investigation into financial irregularities involving the Municipality of West Nipissing and a third-party contractor.

In a release, West Nipissing Police Chief Chuck Seguin says he made the request to the OPP in late January to ensure an unbiased, independent investigation.

The OPP accepted that request and the investigation has since been assigned to the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch.

OPP Director of the Criminal Investigation Services, Detective Superintendent Dave Truax says this is something they do provide if requested.

Truax says he can’t speculate on how long a thorough and professional investigation will take.

After initially announcing two managers were placed on administrative leave, last week the municipality said their employment has been terminated.

They also announced a civil action has been started against a local contractor to recover funds for work not performed.

They explained in January that this involves accounting irregularities involving the Public Works Department.
