Fire Safety Tips from Local Firefighter

With the fresh dumping of snow, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services are out with a reminder.

They’re asking residents to clear fire hydrants near their property of snow to allow for a faster response by fire crews, if needed.

Fire Prevention Officer Sheri Korn also says snow accumulation can cause other problems outside the home too.

She says check the perimeter of your home to make sure the gas meter and gas appliance exhaust vents are free of ice and snow, pointing out a blocked vent could result in carbon monoxide problems.

Korn says carefully remove the snow, be cautious not to hit connections that can become loose and be aware of the vents location when clearing snow from the roof.
