casinoLast week we told you Callander had sent a letter to OLG regarding funding for outlying municipalities.

They were hoping the Board would consider sharing some of the casinos revenues with areas outside of North Bay.

They would cover “potential pitfalls including gambling addictions and associated crime and social problems.”

This week Mayor Al McDonald said if and when North Bay gets a casino, he would not be in favour of that decision. He says “I don’t support sharing the funds we would get from a casino with the outlying municipalities.”

He adds “we work with our outside municipalities and what’s good for North Bay is good for our outlying municipalities.

McDonald says they want to continue to work closely together, but the revenues should stay within North Bay’s borders.

He says they have done some research and no other single tiered municipalities share casino revenues.

He says there are two cases where the casino is in a multi-tiered government that acts as a “regional government” but in the best interest for the citizens of North Bay, the revenues should stay here.

McDonald says that will still come down to a council decision but that is his personal stance at this point.
