NEW opp policeA 51 year old Chatham area snowmobile operator has been charged by the Almaguin Highlands Detachment of the OPP with several offenses following an incident last week. 

Police say the Northeast Region SAVE Unit was patrolling a trail near Sprucedale. 

Police say a vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and when stopped by police the driver struck an officer with his machine.

The male has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assault a peace officer, fail to stop for police and speeding.

The officer was taken to hospital for non life threatening injuries.
