North Bay Police“Beware the scams of March.”

That’s the word from the North Bay Police Service who advises the upcoming March Break is not only busy for travelers, it’s busy for fraudsters too.

They’ve received complaints about fictitious vacation property rentals being advertised online on Kijiji.

Corporate Communications Coordinator Marie Lugli says protect yourself when booking a vacation.

She says the safest option is to book through a local travel agent, never send cash or money transfers and don’t be fooled by cheap rates and professional photography, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably is” .

As for other tips, Lugli says don’t fall victim to high pressure tactics, be wary about being transferred to another person to make a deposit and before booking, visit GoogleMaps and zoom in to the “Street View” to see if the property actually exists.
