(File photo by Lawrence Chadbourn) After only 8 weeks, a shortened snowmobile season is coming to an end.

North Bay Snowmobile Club Public Relations Director Shawn Flindall says the trails are limited, with all trails expected to shut down for the season in the next few days.

It’s all because of the recent rain and mild temperatures.

Flindall says some trails have exposed rocks and dirt, bare spots, streams are starting to run and cross the trails.

He does say some are still snowcovered, but there’s largely unfavourable conditions at this point.

Meantime, Flindall says a typical season is about 10 to 12 weeks so this shortened season is having an economic impact on the area.

He points out the average out of town snowmobiler spends $300 a day.

Last year’s season was 14 weeks.
