NEW opp policeNo ice is safe ice.

With the end of the snowmobile season upon us, OPP SAVE Team Sgt Andy Bishop is asking riders to practice caution before heading out.

He says their primary concern at this time of year is ice travel.

Sgt Bishop says throughout the year they’ve had poor ice conditions, heavy slush areas, pressure cracks and with the spring thaw conditions are going to worsen.

He says traditionally the ice starts to disappear in rivers, streams, creeks and near the shoreline where water is flowing the quickest.

However, he also says there’s some thin spots out on area lakes too, so again the main message is to practice caution.

After a shorter than usual season, snowmobile trails are expected to be closing in the next couple days.
